Our Story

1835
Foundation of the family business Anton Lerchbaumer in Spittal/Drau, Austria. 
1972
Conversion of ‘Baumeister Isola & Lerchbaumer KG’ into ILBAU-Aktiengesellschaft. 
1997
Austrian ILBAU / Bau Holding AG acquires German STRABAG Bau-AG, Cologne.
2000
The group begins to operate throughout Europe as the core brand STRABAG, and the ILBAU brand is discontinued.
2006
Züblin (a member of STRABAG Group) secures the first project in Australia by a STRABAG company. Züblin together with Multiplex Engineering and Macmahon Contractors and Water Corporation of WA formed the Alkimos Water Alliance (AWA) to deliver the Alkimos Waste Water Treatment Scheme.  
2025
STRABAG SE acquires Australian construction company Georgiou Group, bringing global expertise together with local knowledge and experience. 
2026
Tunnel Boring Machine “Rhiannan” launches at Belmont Desalination Plant, to deliver the 814-metre subsea intake tunnel as part of the first STRABAG project supported by Georgiou Group.
